Add Your Name to the List

We're less than a week away from the end of the 2011 Santa Barbara City Council campaign! A BIG THANK YOU is in order to all those who have been working so hard to get our endorsed candidates, Cathy Murillo, Deborah Schwartz and Iya Falcone, elected to the Santa Barbara City Council! We have had a truly grassroots effort and over 150 people have volunteered on this important election. If you haven't gotten involved yet, now is the time! Add your name to the incredible list of volunteers we have had this year.

It's Not Too Late!

Election Day for the Santa Barbara City Council election is quickly approaching and if you haven't mailed in your ballot yet, it's not too late but it soon will be! You should put your ballot in the mail no later than Friday, November 4th to ensure that it will be counted. Your ballot must be at City Hall, or drop-off center, by 8pm on Tuesday, November 8th to be counted. Postmarks do NOT count. Almost 300 ballots arrived after Election Day in 2009 and nearly 200 of them were from Democrats. Don't let this happen to you.

We will be phoning from Peikert Group Architects, located at 10 E. Figueroa. Pizza, call lists, training and fun will be provided!

City Hall is Haunted

Halloween is right around the corner and you're probably making your final decisions on what to dress up as this year. Maybe you'll be a vampire? Or a ghost? Maybe a zombie? But what's really scares us this year is the current make-up of the Santa Barbara City Council.

Send It In, Santa Barbara!

If you live in the city of Santa Barbara, you should have received your ballot last week for the ALL vote-by-mail Santa Barbara City Council election. Hopefully, you have already filled it out for our endorsed candidates: Iya Falcone, Cathy Murillo and Deborah Schwartz and have encouraged all of your friends, family and co-workers to do the same. If you have not sent in your ballot yet, please do so as soon as possible! You can also drop off the ballot at City Hall, 735 Anacapa St., Monday-Friday from 7:30am-5:30pm.

Statement by the Democratic Party of Santa Barbara County on the Occupy Wall Street (and Santa Barbara) Protests

In hundreds of cities throughout the United States and in a growing list of locales around the world, ordinary citizens are making their voices heard. What began as a small act of peaceful civil disobedience by a small group has grown into a powerful, if loose coalition of progressive activists, labor unions, community organizations and elected leaders. As Democrats, we welcome and encourage this grassroots awakening. It is high time that the cold logic of corporate dominance, embraced, unfortunately by leaders of both major political parties, be questioned and challenged.

Walk and Phone Weekday Evenings

We are now only about one week away from ballots being mailed out to voters for the extremely important Santa Barbara City Council election. As a reminder, this is an ALL VOTE BY MAIL election. Which means every registered voter in the city of Santa Barbara will be receiving a ballot in the mail, even if they usually do not vote by mail. It's incredibly urgent that we speak to voters and inform them about this year's election and our endorsed candidates: Cathy Murillo, Iya Falcone, and Deborah Schwartz.

As Santa Barbara Democrats, we believe in a society and community based on solidarity and sustainability. We believe, quite simply that our country does better when everyone does better, and that we need to live in harmony with our environment. Our aim is to empower, educate and organize citizens and residents of Santa Barbara County. First and foremost, this means mobilizing voters to get to the polls and elect Democrats at all levels of government. We also hold elected officials accountable to the values and principles of our Democratic party, through public advocacy, coalition work, as well as through our endorsement process, which asks candidates seeking our support to pledge to put our shared values into practice.
