It's Show Time!
Tomorrow is the day that we have been working towards for the last three months. Over 200 people have spent countless volunteer hours to get Deborah Schwartz, Iya Falcone and Cathy Murillo elected to the Santa Barbara City Council.
This campaign has been about more than just getting these women elected and taking back Democratic control of the City Council. This campaign has been about sending a message that Santa Barbara is a city that cares. A city that cares about bringing back the middle class. A city that cares about preserving our environment and resources so that our children and grandchildren can enjoy the quality of life we have been blessed with. And a city that cares about hearing the input of all residents about important decisions that affect our community.
Tomorrow is the day that will show what our community is all about. Now is the time to be a part of this movement. You don't want to sit around on November 9th thinking, "What if I had done just a little bit more."
Below is an email that was sent out by Councilmember Frank Hotchkiss on behalf of the conservative incumbents. Please notice their assertion that our candidates are receiving thousands of dollars in "special interest" funds and remember: Working people are NOT a special interest. The hundreds of thousands of dollars Francisco and Self received from a single Texas developer in 2009 seems much more like a special interest.
Frank is right about one thing. They recognize that this race will be incredibly close. Every single vote is going to make the difference. Our conversations with voters have been going great but we need to make sure that they turn in their ballots at the right location.
Come in today between 10am and 9pm at 10 E. Figueroa to call voters, let them know where their nearest drop off center is and to ensure that they know how important it is that they support our candidates.
There will also be plenty of Election Day activities, including:
5:30am - Morning Literature Drop to remind voters that it is Election Day and where they should take their ballot (REMEMBER: traditional polling locations will NOT be open on Election Day and many people will be confused about where they should go)
9am-8pm - Phone Bank voters to urge them to turn in their ballots
5pm-8pm - Knock & Drag the last voters who have not turned their ballots to do so at their nearest drop-off center
For more information on how to get involved or to sign-up for Election Day GOTV activities, contact Darcel Elliott at 805-452-1214 or email sbdems@gmail.com
Thank you for all of your hard work and continued support! We're almost there!
PS
Email sent out by Councilmember Frank Hotchkiss:
> I thought you might like an update on the current campaign to keep Michael Self, Randy Rowse and Dale Francisco on the City Council. In short, it's going great! We have surpassed the other candidates in raising money, and that says alot. It means there is a great ground swell for our people. Note that unlike the opposition, which has received more than $120,000 in special interest funds (unions and political entities), all our support has come from people like you and me.

MISSION
As Santa Barbara Democrats, we believe in a society and community based on solidarity and sustainability. We believe, quite simply that our country does better when everyone does better, and that we need to live in harmony with our environment. Our aim is to empower, educate and organize citizens and residents of Santa Barbara County. First and foremost, this means mobilizing voters to get to the polls and elect Democrats at all levels of government. We also hold elected officials accountable to the values and principles of our Democratic party, through public advocacy, coalition work, as well as through our endorsement process, which asks candidates seeking our support to pledge to put our shared values into practice.
